Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

(my Interfaith version of a traditional Roman Catholic prayer)

I am an instrument of peace;

Where there is hatred, I sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, the faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

I do not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that I receive;

It is in pardoning that I am pardoned;

And it is in dying that I will return to my Eternal Source.

And so it is. Amen.
